Former IRW intern Laszlo Steinwaerder has been shortlisted for the ‘Visions on Peace’ master thesis prize 2023 by the Dutch Foundation for Peace Research. Conducted under the supervision of IRW’s dr. Lauren Gould, his research addresses the politico-economic drivers of remote warfare and shows, using the case study of the US intervention in Somalia, how remote warfare’s flexible character allows for the expansion of a profitable war economy while also establishing new spaces for capital investment.
