Multilateralism and Armed Drones: Escaping the Gridlock

Co-hosted last month by the Stimson Center and PAX, ‘Multilateralism and Armed Drones: Escaping the Gridlock’ focused on trends, initiatives, and opportunities in building meaningful standards on the proliferation and use of armed drones. Shining a spotlight on the lack of clarity surrounding states’ legal and regulatory frameworks and the related secrecy surrounding the extent and impact of targeted drone strikes, this webinar is a timely reminder of some of the issues raised when unmanned systems play a central role in remote warfare.

Featured speakers included Rachel Stohl (Vice President at the Stimson Center); Dr Agnes Callamard (UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions); Maritza Chan (Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the UN); William Malzahn (Senior Policy Advisor within the Office of Conventional Arms Threat Reduction at the US Department of State); and Wim Zwijnnenburg (Programme Leader Humanitarian Disarmament at PAX).
