For some, war is a highly profitable business. Few people know this better than Siemon Wezeman from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). A senior researcher at the SIPRI Arms and Military Expenditure Programme, Wezeman works in a team responsible for monitoring arms transfers, military spending and arms production globally.
On the 6th of October, Wezeman will cast light on the shadowy world of global arms trading in a discussion about the Netherlands’ role as an export country, and how states conduct their arms sales politically. This speech is the latest in a collaborative series of events themed “Invisible Violence” from Studium Generale and the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges.
The Industry of Violence event will take place from 20:00-21:30 on the 6th of October. It will be free to attend but advanced registration – via the Studium Generale website – is required.
Please note: the speech will be delivered in Dutch.
