Keynote: Realities of Algorithmic Warfare and Civilian Harm

Dr. Lauren Gould and Jessica Dorsey provide a keynote for the Contestations.AI symposium on the 23rd of October in Helsinki. As project leaders of the Realities of Algorithmic Warfare, they will reflect on how AI is increasing the speed of warfare and scale of destruction across contemporary battlefields and what pressing (research) questions this raises.

They will be presenting alongside the groundbreaking investigative journalist Antony Loewenstein, who wrote the book and hosts the podcast The Palestine Laboratory. A must read/listen for anybody interested in the Israeli military-industrial-commercial complex.

This symposium brings together interdisciplinary scholars, investigate journalists, artists, NGOs and politicians to discuss and debate how AI is increasingly being used for surveillance, targeting, and autonomous drone warfare, in addition to proliferating misinformation on social media during war and conflicts. But also, how these technologies are leveraged for investigation of human rights violations as done by members of Forensic Architecture, Airwars and Bellingcat.

The event will be live-streamed. See the Contestations.AI website.
