Based on the book authored by Andrew Feinstein, the documentary introduces the viewer to a world governed by a global system that prioritises financial gain over the rule of law, human lives and peace. The documentary’s ‘cast’ not only includes corrupt and unscrupulous arms dealers and weapon manufacturers, but also Western leaders, from Margaret Thatcher to Barack Obama, who appear to favour lucrative arms deals over sustainable peace. A such, the documentary aptly illustrates that war is a business and that winning or ending a war is rarely, if ever, in the interest of the powerful ‘stakeholders’. Relating to remote warfare, Shadow World gives insight into the drives behind the development and use of the advanced technologies that facilitate remote intervention.
